Volkswagen Beetle strikes, kills man on US 92 near Daytona Beach

A man walking on U.S. Highway 92 Friday night near Daytona Beach was struck and killed by a Volkswagen Beetle, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The pedestrian, identified as a 65-year-old man from Michigan, was hit by the car at 9:02 p.m. at U.S. 92, also known as International Speedway Boulevard, approaching Roosevelt Boulevard, troopers said.

The man was walking eastbound in the outside lane of International Speedway Boulevard when he was hit by the 2003 Volkswagen, also traveling east, according to FHP Trooper Migdalisis Garcia.

The man, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was killed at the scene of the crash, FHP said.

The vehicle versus pedestrian crash remains under investigation, troopers said.
