The rivalry between coaches Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton on season 20 of The Voice continues.

During Tuesday night’s show, Blake jokingly tore into Kelly when host Carson Daly was highlighting her experience as the first winner of American Idol back in 2002. Speaking to Blake, John Legend, and Nick Jonas, Carson reminded the three coaches that Kelly has “won a show just like this” and that “arguably, she knows more about this than any of you.”

Of course, Carson’s defense of Kelly didn’t sit too well with Blake, who is quite proud of the fact that he’s won The Voice seven times. Right away, the country singer clapped back, joking that he “wasn’t impressed” with Kelly and pointing out, without mentioning American Idol by name, that the show got canceled (American Idol was canceled in 2016 on Fox but was picked up again by ABC in 2018).

What’s more, according to USA Today, Blake took things one step further and quipped during the evening that Kelly couldn’t “complete her team” and was a “terrible coach.” Well, dang!

This playful exchange comes just after Blake and Kelly got into it last week. As viewers who tuned in can remember, Blake joked that Kelly had gone “completely Hollywood” and forgotten about her Texas roots. Of course, Kelly threw it right back at Blake, declaring that he was the one “on covers of magazines” and engaged to No Doubt’s lead singer Gwen Stefani.

Another incident last week also underscores how much they love poking fun at one another. After contestant Peter Mroz took the stage, it became clear that Blake didn’t recognize him as a former bandmate from his days performing with The Young Riders. Kelly, of course, seized on the moment.

“Are you, are you serious?” Kelly shouted at Blake while laughing from her red swivel chair. “You were in a group with him, and he doesn’t remember you?!”

We have a feeling these two are going to be taking lighthearted shots at each other all season long. All we can say is Nick and John better be careful getting caught in the crossfire—after all, Kelly and Blake might just be the new Adam and Blake.
