Who's excited for the return of Sweet Magnolias? 🙌

Season 3 of the Netflix show will be here before we know it (July 20, to be exact!), and we're more than ready to dive back into the lives of our favorite trio—Maddie, Helen, and Dana Sue! And from the looks of the trailer, it seems that the cast is back and better than ever, and the small town of Serenity is still just as gorgeous! In fact, Sweet Magnolias has some of the most beautiful scenery we've ever seen on television! Which raises the question: Where is Sweet Magnolias filmed? And is Serenity a real place?

To answer the latter: Serenity, the town created for the Netflix series, doesn't actually exist. But don't get bummed out too quickly! It's still possible to visit the town(s) where our on-screen BFFS call home! It just might not be exactly where you were expecting to go. Along with heading down to the friendly neighborhoods of South Carolina, you're going to want to take a road trip to these Georgia towns: Covington and McDonough.

Covington, Georgia

Alright, if you want to visit the place where most of the magic happens, then you'll need to pay a visit to Covington, Georgia! A good portion of the scenes you see on the Netflix series are filmed here—and we can see why, it's absolutely mesmerizing! 😍 Plus, if you wanted to sit down at Dana Sue's town-famous restaurant, Sullivan's—you still can! The actual spot goes by the name Mystic Grill—and you probably could assume that the restaurant has grown in popularity since the show aired.

Fun fact: According to Discover Covington, there have been over "200 movies and TV productions" filmed in the area, including the likes of The Vampire Diaries, Remember the Titans, Venom, and so much more!

McDonough, Georgia

If you're looking to get into a Sweet Magnolias road trip, you'll want to check out McDonough, Georgia. There weren't too many scenes filmed there, but it's the home of the high school and church—both pivotal landmarks of the show. Newsweek let us know that Serenity High School is actually Henry County Middle School, and Serenity's Prince of Peace Lutheran Church took place at Oakhurst Presbyterian in Decatur.

Sumter, South Carolina

So, there weren't actually any scenes shot here. However, Sweet Magnolias author Sherryl Woods said that Sumter, South Carolina is the inspiration for the fictional town of Serenity. "Developing Serenity for this new series had a special meaning for me," she said during the intro in her first book of the series, Stealing Home. “Each year as I travel from my home in Key Biscayne, Florida to my family's summer cottage in Colonial Beach, Virginia, I make a stop in Sumter, South Carolina, to visit one of my family's oldest and dearest friends, Donnie Clemons." Woods then dedicated the book to Dottie and her home in Sumter. Sweet Magnolias is an ode to just that.

Who knows, maybe a cute little road trip to these locations is just what you need to pass the time as we wait for season 3!
