Where was The Crown filmed?

It probably makes sense to begin with Wilton House in Wiltshire, England as well as Lancaster House in London, England—both of which were stand ins for the famous Buckingham Palace. Wilton House was used for more of the outdoor scenes in regards to the royal home on The Crown, and it's easy to see why! The location has beautiful rose gardens, a lovely Tudor tower, and the silkiest velvet curtains you'll ever see. The indoor scenes at Buckingham, Palace were shot in Lancaster Home—which, by the way, is only a five-minute walk from Buckingham Palace. The visuals speak for themself, but our breath was absolutely taken away when we saw that iconic staircase, bold color palette, and the dazzling chandeliers.

Then we have the Ardverikie Estate in Kinloch Laggan, Scotland! This spot was meant to portray the Balmoral Castle, aka the famous Scottish retreat that Queen Elizabeth II adored so much. While the Ardverikie Estate is obviously not the actual retreat, it did the location justice, and appeared in seasons 1, 2, 4, and 5! The estate is able to be visited in real life, and offers special cottages around the holidays.

Another location we think is worth mentioning in depth is Belvoir Castle, which resides in Leicestershire, a ceremonial county in the East Midlands of England. This one acts as the Windsor Castle—and the spot was curated to resemble the home of The Queen.
