Visit Lafayette-West Lafayette to host 'Tourism Week,' promoting local activities and treats

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Greater Lafayette residents have the chance to be a tourist in their own city for a week as Visit Lafayette-West Lafayette prepares to host its second annual Tourism Week beginning Monday.

Sara Erickson, director of communications for Visit Lafayette-West Lafayette, said prior to 2020, the organization annually held a tailgate event, but as organizers looked to bring back the celebration of all Greater Lafayette has to offer in 2023, a week-long celebration of fun felt like a better fit.

While the week's scheduled events are free, Friday's Coffee Crawl and Art Museum of Greater Lafayette Art Crawl both require free online tickets in advance. Erickson said within days of listing the Coffee Crawl's tickets online, they sold out.

"Seeing the success with these crawls has shown us there is opportunity to host more unique crawls in the future," Erickson said.

Here is the official line-up of events beginning Monday:

Monday, May 20

Triple XXX root beer and popcorn at the Visit Lafayette-West Lafayette visitors center from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 301 Frontage Road in Lafayette.

Tuesday, May 21

Free entrance to the Columbian Park Zoo from noon to 4 p.m.

Wednesday, May 22

The Igloo Frozen Custard mobile cart will be parked outside the Visit Lafayette-West Lafayette visitors center, offering frozen treats from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. — or until supplies run out.

Thursday, May 23

From 4 to 7 p.m. in the parking lot of the Visit Lafayette-West Lafayette visitors center, Flourish Mobile Art will host crafting opportunities alongside area food trucks, games and a chance to meet Lafayette Aviators mascot Ace the Aviator

Friday, May 24

A Community Coffee Crawl will take place throughout downtown Lafayette with tickets required. An Art Museum of Greater Lafayette Art Crawl will also take place from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Free tickets are available at homeofpurdue.com.
