They're a perfectionist, they're hyper-organized, they're just a litttttle bit critical...they must be a Virgo. Whether you're crushing on a Virgo, befriending one, or you are one, let's talk more about the mutable earth sign of the zodiac.

See, every sign of the zodiac has personality qualities and archetypal traits associated with it. Let’s get into some vibes we often associate with Virgo—the good, the bad, and the organized—shall we?

Pause for a quick disclaimer: Before reading on, please remember the first astrological commandment, *thou shalt not astroprofile*, and know that literally any sign can have any personality quality. These are simply the ones most commonly associated with our Virgo friends. Also, the ways these qualities get expressed vary from person to person.

VIRGO AT THE OFFICE

Virgo is the one and only Mercury-ruled earth sign. Thanks to the planet of communication, language, and travel, Virgo is able to zoom in on the finer details. They’re often stereotyped as the ultra-obsessive organizers of astrology, but the truth is, Virgoan energy sorts through time and space with laser-sharp focus. Think your presentation, essay, or PowerPoint is finished? Your final step should be passing it to a Virgo.

As the sign that comes after fiery Leo in the zodiac, Virgo takes the lion’s raw, primal, creative passion and shapes it so that it can truly be effective. Virgo at the office is endlessly helpful, service-oriented, and focused on the greater good. They always have an extra pen and have mastered inbox zero.

VIRGO IN LOVE

Virgo is represented by the virgin, but don’t misunderstand. This doesn’t mean your Virgo crush is modest in the bedroom. It’s just that for Virgo, the body is a temple and you have to prove yourself before they’ll grant you access. As for winning over a Virgo? Prove your wits, keep up with them in a conversation (good luck), talk about recent books you’ve read, and discuss how and why you plan to save the planet.

Virgos are known for their acute minds and ability to assimilate and digest information (their sign rules the digestive system, after all). So they’ll probably notice things about you that you didn’t even realize. The way your hair falls along your shoulder, the specks of green in your eyes, and, yes…the coffee stain on your shirt, that you were 1.5 minutes late, or that you really need a more efficient method for organizing your Google Calendar. Virgo’s love is mentally stimulating and wondrous—with a side of critique.

VIRGO WITH FRIENDS

Virgos like to organize time, space, information, and groups of people. Your Virgo friend is likely the one who rallies everyone together for regular hangouts, setting up a weekly Zoom happy hour and checking in when you’re feeling down. Additionally, your Virgo pal is probably the one you go to for advice. Like, real, hard-edged advice as opposed to comfort and hugs. Virgo will tell it like it is: “Dump their sorry a$$,” “They don’t deserve you,” and “Let’s weigh the pros and cons before jumping to any conclusions.” Your Virgo friend will not shy away from critique either.

The classic Virgoan humor is dry and straight up: sarcasm mixed with a hit of bite. Don’t take it too personally. If Virgo likes you enough to wittily and hilariously critique you, you’ve got a friend for life. The thing about Virgo is that they’re always trying to improve things, people, environments—for better or worse. If your Virgo friend is getting too nitpicky, speak up! They’ll appreciate your honesty. Oh, and don’t be afraid to dose a Virgo with their own medicine. For a Virgo, true friendship means constantly improving and taking in feedback. If you think they’re texting too much—or not enough—they want to know!

VIRGO BEHIND THE SCENES

Sure, there are some stereotypically neat and clean Virgos. They own all the books on feng shui and decluttering. But it’s important to understand that Virgo’s “organization” and “obsessiveness” isn’t limited to the physical. Often, a Virgo’s home will be totally relaxed or even (gasp) messy. But take a peek in their Google Drive and you’ll see seven different calendars, color-coded and vigilantly maintained, even if last week’s laundry is still on the floor.

Another thing about Virgo? They’re the classic bookworms of the zodiac. Mercury, their planetary ruler, is responsible for their obsession with learning, knowledge, and information. As an earth sign, they value the stuff of the senses. They’re likely to have a comfortable home where they can sit back, read for hours, and hide away from the world. Fiercely protective of their homes and energy, Virgos will think long and hard before inviting you over. Should you gain entrance into a Virgo’s abode, however, you’ll be greeted with sexy librarian vibes—candles, yummy snacks, robes, and the best book collection you’ve ever seen.
