'Virgin River' Season 4 Could Be the Last Time We'll See Paige

'Virgin River' Season 4 Could Be the Last Time We'll See Paige

WARNING: Season 4 spoilers ahead

Paige on Virgin River seemingly dropped off the face of the earth after season two. Luckily, the character is back for season four and gave fans some much-needed closure on a few plot points.

First, let's rewind back to season two to refresh our memories on who Paige is and why she's been away for so long. Paige Lassiter, played by Lexa Doig, owned a bakery truck in Virgin River, where she lived with her son Christopher.

Paige and Preacher start a romantic relationship before Preacher discovers that she is not who she says she is. Paige has been on the run from her abusive husband, Wes, who eventually finds her in Virgin River, and their encounter ends in Paige killing Wes by pushing him down a flight of stairs.

Preacher helps Paige dispose of the body and agrees to care for Christopher and the bakery truck as Paige goes into hiding once again away from Virgin River. That is the last we see of Paige until season four, but even though she is not on-screen, her character is still involved in the action during season three.

At the end of season three, while Paige is still away when Wes's twin brother, Vince, comes to town looking for him. Vince kidnaps Paige's son Christopher, and when Paige discovers that Christopher has been kidnapped, she returns to Virgin River.

During her time away, Paige has been living at a women's shelter in Mendocino, California. She decides that the only way to get Christopher back is to offer herself in place of her son. "Preacher, I'm sorry I couldn't be honest with you, but I know you'd never accept the truth: the only way Christopher will be safe is if I stop running and give Vince what he wants: me," Paige says in a letter to Preacher.

Upon her return, Vince finds Paige at the end of season four and demands (at gunpoint) to know where she buried Wes. Luckily for Paige, Preacher walks in on the two in a struggle and manages to hit Wes on the head with a piece of firewood. It is unclear whether Preacher killed Wes or simply knocked him out. Either way, for the time being, Christopher, Paige and Preacher are safe. However, Paige is in trouble regardless because she took Christopher from his father, and she never went to the police after killing Wes.

We will have to wait until season five to find out what will happen to Paige, Christopher, and Preacher. Fans theorize that this can play out in one of two ways: Either Paige flees and Preacher moves on with Julia, or Paige could stay in town, creating a love triangle.

However, it's likely this is the last time we'll see Paige. For starters, Lexa has a lot of irons in the fire, and her new role as Bree Wheeler in the Chucky series may keep her from continuing her role as Paige. Another note: on her IMBD page, Virgin River caps off in 2022, but it might not just be updated yet. However, the most telling clue is from an EW interview with showrunner Sue Tenney. "Given a fourth season, we're going to bring everything together with Paige and Preacher, and it's going to come to a very dramatic end at the end of season 4," she said at the time.

In true Virgin River fashion, we won't know how this cliffhanger plays out until season five drops. If you're looking for something new to watch in the meantime, check out these 9 shows like Virgin River.
