New ‘Virgin River’ Holiday Episodes: We Finally Know the Identity of Mel’s Biological Father

It’s been two months since Virgin River aired the midseason finale, and we’re still not over that cliffhanger ending. Luckily, it’s officially time for the second half of Virgin River season five.

Netflix just released not one, but two holiday episodes to hold you over until the premiere of season six. Much to our delight, the new installment addresses unanswered questions that fans have been debating for months.

Here’s a breakdown of the Virgin River holiday episodes.

1. What Happens in the Virgin River Holiday Episodes?

Well, we finally got answers to several lingering questions. One of the biggest storylines involves Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and her search to find her biological father. It takes her and Jack (Martin Henderson) an entire episode to track down a name (Everett Reid), and once they do, they hit another dead end (or so they think).

Another involves Lizzie (Sarah Dugdale) and her pregnancy bombshell. As we learn in the holiday episodes, Lizzie is pregnant with Denny’s (Kai Bradbury) child. She confides in Doc (Tim Matheson) and Hope (Annette O’Toole) about their future, and everyone is thrilled. Well, except for Lizzie’s mom. (#Typical)

Also, in an overdue moment, Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley) finally gives birth to the twins after what feels like a years-long pregnancy. Merry Christmas to us!

2. Does Virgin River Season Five End on a Cliffhanger?

Yes and no. The episode ends abruptly after we learn the identity of Mel’s father, but it does give us an answer.

The installment concludes with Mel and Jack enjoying a night on their porch when they notice an approaching car. Everett gets out, walks up to Mel and reveals that he is, in fact, her biological father. “You look so much like your mom,” he says. “Seeing you just broke my heart all over again.”

For once, we have ourselves a happy, bombshell-free ending. Some fans may be disappointed by how little we know about the show’s newest character. However, we’re just happy to get answers about Everett’s identity. Because there’s nothing worse than a mystery getting dragged out for several seasons.

3. What’s in Store for Virgin River Season Six?

The holiday episodes are the perfect ending to a fantastic season, and they set the stage for what’s to come in season six. While we enjoyed Mel’s father storyline, it’s only just begun. The next season will not only further explore their father-daughter relationship, but it’ll also highlight her own journey to start a family (even if it requires adoption).

Not to mention, the tension between Charmaine and Calvin is palpable. And now that Mel knows he’s the father, there’s bound to be a confrontation. We. Can’t Wait.
