Viral illustrator reveals Coronation collectionEleanor Tomlinson

British illustrator Eleanor Tomlinson, who went viral for her charming drawings of the late Queen, has released a brand new collection dedicated to the Coronation of King Charles III.

Eleanor's colourful and lively Coronation collection contains everything from limited-edition prints to commemorative jigsaws.

How it all began for Eleanor Tomlinson

Eleanor was born and raised in the idyllic East Yorkshire countryside. Her illustration work took off in 2022 when she rose to prominence with her now-famous illustration of Paddington Bear and Queen Elizabeth II, which she created to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee.

"It was a moment in time so moving, I realised I had to capture it. The nation, if not the world, was enchanted by the Jubilee celebrations. Images were being transmitted globally and I knew immediately that I needed to document the moment in the way I know how – illustration," recalls Eleanor. "Thus, Jubilee Ma’amalade Tea was created – a moment in time, captured forever and sent viral."

Eleanor adds: “Much to my surprise, it just took off. That image took my work to a new level. Had I realised its potential, I suspect I would never have allowed it to go into the public domain, as the thought of its potential would have been too daunting!”

The late Queen

Eleanor feels an affinity with the late Queen. "I create work from themes that inspire me and that I have a fondness for," Eleanor told Country Living. "Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II started my interest in capturing the royal family, helped along by my shared passion for horses, dogs and the great outdoors."

Sadly, 2022 also saw the passing of both Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh. On both occasions, Eleanor again won the hearts of the nation with her sweet depictions of the royal family. In particular, her tribute to the late Queen, titled Our Beloved Queen, gained international recognition.

A keen philanthropist, Eleanor is keen to share her success with the less fortunate. A recent illustration incorporating Elizabeth II's headscarf, her favourite flower and her treasured Fell pony (plus Corgis) raised £32,000 in aid of Yorkshire Children’s Charity at auction.

The Coronation collection

When it came to the new Coronation collection, Eleanor dedicated herself to the task of crafting a collection of images that would celebrate the jubilant mood of the momentous day.

Given the skill involved, the creative process was no quick task. "The artwork alone for the Coronation collection took 50 plus hours to create, and then countless more organising and designing the range of items. Plus, discussing and sending ideas back and forth to the team of small UK businesses I have worked with to create this new collection," she recalls.

"I have had a wonderful time painting it and I look forward to sharing it."

On the big day itself, Eleanor will be busy exhibiting her work at Badminton Horse Trials. She'll be there alongside Gabriella Shaw, who helped create her one-off Coronation mugs.

Not one to miss a creative opportunity, she'll be taking all of her art materials with her "in case inspiration strikes as it did over the Jubilee last June."
