This Viral Hack Is Worth Going to Two Separate Fast-Food Drive-Thrus to Try

Now that's dedication to trying something new.

Going to two different grocery stores to create a satisfying snack isn’t unheard of. Some combos—such as this special chips-and-salsa duo that I couldn't get out of my mind—are worth it. At least in that scenario, you can pick up other groceries to make the two trips more productive.

But what about going through two different fast-food drive-thrus for something really good? Is that worth it? Perhaps so, because there’s a new drink hack that has social media buzzing, and it requires going to both Taco Bell and McDonald's. That’s right, people are going to Taco Bell and then to McDonald’s just to get a drink. A drink—well, technically a float—that reportedly tastes just like a beloved drink found in malls nationwide.

It seems a little silly, but if you're to believe the social media buzz, it also seems worth checking out.

The Viral McDonald's-Taco Bell Baja Blast Float

Taco Bell recently ran a test of a limited time tropical lime-flavored Mountain Dew Baja Blast Gelatoin Southern California. It’s not unreasonable to wonder whether Taco Bell got the idea for the gelato from the viral McDonald’s Baja Blast float hack that’s been making the rounds on social media for a while. The hack seems to have recaptured everyone’s attention (perhaps because the gelato sold out quickly) and it’s popping up on TikTok once again. The float is a combination of Taco Bell’s Baja Blast soda with McDonald’s vanilla soft serve ice cream.

“So creamy,” said the TikTok poster. “10/10.”

What Does the McDonald’s Baja Blast Float Taste Like?

“This drink immediately brought me back to sitting in the mall with my mom drinking an Orange Julius,” said Allrecipes’ social team member Jenny Wentworth, who recently tried the trendy float. She changed the recipe up a bit, however, by adding some vanilla milkshake from In-N-Out to the Taco Bell soda, which created a very similar flavor profile as adding the McDonald’s soft serve would have. “It has all the tropical citrus flavors I love with a super creamy smoothness to it," Wentworth noted. "The milkshake and Baja Blast are so good just by themselves that it is a no-brainer to put them together."

So why not just get an Orange Julius from Dairy Queen (who bought the rights to the drink in 1987)? Aside from the fact that not all DQs carry the drink, there’s really only one other answer: What fun would that be to put on TikTok?
