Biden and Doug Emhoff's greeting at the State of the Union address surprised many.

On Feb. 7, U.S. President Joe Biden's State of the Union address took place, and there were many notable guests, but everyone couldn't stop talking about what happened between first lady Dr. Jill Biden and Kamala Harris' husband, second gentleman Doug Emhoff.

A clip of the duo greeting each other with a kiss on the lips went viral on Twitter, with many watching the live broadcast equally as shocked and confused by the exchange.

The clip shared on Pop Base currently has over 1.5 million views, and the reply thread is filled with puzzled responses as many simply echoed the question, "what?"

The shock and confusion over the clip continued, with another person re-tweeting the post and adding, "did i read this right."

Others felt like they missed a few steps in their relationship, with quite a few saying something along the lines of, "did we miss a few chapters cause..."

A few people also joked that the Saturday Night Live writers are sure to jump on this news right away to include it in the next episode.

Others suggested the clip had to be edited, while another said the video "proof" was irrefutable.

While confusion and shock seemed to be the main reaction to Biden and Emhoff's greeting, others pointed out that this is a normal thing for some. One even highlighted how the first lady did the same when presenting an award at the Grammys.

They wrote, "I thought this was normal cause my mom greets people by kissing them sometimes and the First Lady kissed miss Bonnie Raitt when she gave her her Grammy sooo."

"This unfortunately isn’t THAT weird to me bc this is how my grandparents would greet all of their friends/family," said another Twitter user.

This is also how almost everyone greets each other in South Africa, as one commenter stated, "They [sic] people screaming clearly haven't met South Africans. First random kiss on the lips I got was from a South African. I was so confused until I spoke to other South African friends who said oh that's normal for many people."

It's possible that the two actually kissed each other on the cheek, but the video makes it look like it was on the lips, as some people argued.

"They kissed on the cheek, which is a standard greeting for many Americans. Stop trying to create drama," read one reply.

Overall, the responses to the clip of Biden and Emhoff are mixed, with a lot of confusion about what happened. It's unclear if the two will respond to the public reaction.
