This Viral '6-To-1 Grocery Method' Could Save You Tons Of Money

Nothing has become more frightening these days than a trip to the grocery store. It's the place where budgets crumble with ease and sticker shock is a common occurrence. While there still isn't a solution for inflation, one viral hack could make grocery shopping much simpler and more affordable.

The hack is called the 6-to-1 grocery method, and according to its creator, Chef Will Coleman, it works by limiting the amount of items you buy.

In a TikTok video that has received nearly 1 million views, Chef Coleman broke down how exactly the 6-to-1 grocery method works. You buy six vegetables, five fruits, four proteins, three starches, two sauces or spreads, and one "fun" item for yourself. So it's 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.

People on TikTok are already claiming that the method has helped them save money and eat healthier.

"This is what I’ve been doing for over a year and you’re right! I avoid buying processed snacks for health reasons but I also save soo much!" one person shared

"I’ve been using your method and it honestly helps," another added.

There was some pushback about the amount of veggies you'd have to purchase. One person even confessed, "You lost me at 6 veggies." But another user chimed in with their tip on picking the right items if you're a bit new to cooking with vegetables.

"For those who are adding produce to their diet, good staple veggies are onion, garlic, carrots, celery, potatoes, and peppers!" the person shared.

We're also giving a major side-eye to those who hilariously thought that the 6-to-1 grocery method was a self-checkout "hack."

"Who else thought he was going to say grab 6 items only pay for 1 😂😂😂," one person wrote.

And if all else fails, you can always become a vegetarian.

Shakshuka typically involves a sauce of tomatoes and red peppers, but our take on this simmered skillet breakfast spins the color wheel thanks to roasted tomatillos and Swiss chard.

For best results, use extra-firm tofu that has been frozen so it can absorb flavors more readily. Simmer it in salted water briefly to make it hardier and less likely to crumble when jostled in the pan. Add your favorite veggies, and you're golden!

To get extra crispy "fried" cauliflower, you've gotta use your air fryer. This recipe is basically the vegan version of our favorite fish tacos. The finishing touches? A quick and easy pickled slaw for a bite of freshness and a spicy mayo for a touch of heat.

In this meat-free Vietnamese classic, the pressed tofu marinates twice: once quickly before cooking and again after it’s cooked. A French baguette will do the job, but an airier, crisp-crusted Vietnamese-style baguette is the ultimate bread for this sammie.

This is one of our favorite ways to prepare gnocchi. Roasting gives the dumplings a slightly browned exterior while still maintaining a pillowy, chewy interior. They're a fabulous base for a Caprese, except here we swap out tomatoes (not always in season!) for beautiful and reliably sweet bell peppers.
