Vintage Footage Of 120-Foot BMX Car Jump Emerges

Mountain bikers often look at BMXers with a side-eye. They are like our crazy cousins who send gaps bigger MTB Pros on rigid little bikes with 20” wheels.

Watch as a BMX rider gaps a 120-foot line of cars below.

This video is absolutely bonkers. It was filmed in 2005, years before mountain bikers were going that big. Meanwhile, these BMX riders were shooting grainy videos just for the fun of it.

In the video, Colin Winkleman got a tow in from a motorcycle. This is crazy for multiple reasons. For one, The speed wobbles at that speed almost knocked Colin off his bike. For two, judging the speed for a gap is harder than when rolling in under your own power.

Despite all of this, Winkleman landed perfectly!

Colin Winkleman was also famous for a viral video in which he jumped over a moving van with a ramp. In this video, he showed less physics acumen than his perfect car jump landing and landed flat on the pavement. Watch the video below.

As the esteemed Alex Butler once said “We’re nothing but dirt compared to BMX.” Until I see mountain bikers doing a Hot Rod impression I might have to agree with him.

Sadly, Winkleman passed away by suicide in 2005. He will be remembered for all he brought to the sport of biking.
