Earlier this year, users of the short-form video platform Tik Tok were putting themselves and their homes at risk of fire with the outlet challenge. And now, as if the coronavirus outbreak couldn't get any worse, users have been posting short clips prompted by the pandemic. While most posts seem harmless, others show users purposely putting themselves at risk of contracting the virus.
Influencer Ava Louise shared a video on Tik Tok this week of herself licking the toilet seat in an airplane bathroom, tweeted the video, and wrote "Please RT this so people can know how to properly be sanitary on the airplane." It appears she is poking fun at informative PSA messages circulating on social media to help combat the virus.
Please RT this so people can know how to properly be sanitary on the airplane 🥰😅 pic.twitter.com/x7GX9b4Lxc— Ava Louise (ig @avalouiise) (@realavalouiise) March 14, 2020
Most users on Twitter did not seem to find the video entertaining, even after Louise followed up with a tweet explaining how she bleached the toilet seat before licking it.
Y’all want me to go to jail but I don’t have coronavirus so I didn’t put anyone at risk...NOT EVEN MYSELF I BLEACHED IT— Ava Louise (ig @avalouiise) (@realavalouiise) March 16, 2020
While Louise's version of the challenge did not seem to catch on (phew!), #CoronavirusChallenge continues to trend; however, there doesn't seem to be a direct theme among the videos. Fortunately, the bulk of clips with this hashtag do not show social media users endangering themselves in the name of clout. In contrast to Louise's post, this family just wants to share some tips and sweet moves on how to combat the virus. We're all for catchy and upbeat reminders to wash our hands.
