Video: Watch Big Wave Surfers Make History Charging Massive Nazaré

Portugal's legendary big wave spot Nazaré went bonkers at the end of February.

Big wave surfers Lucas “Chumbo” Chianca and Sebastian Steudtner charged utterly massive waves and possibly set new world records for the biggest waves ever surfed.

Surf cinematographer Tim Bonython was there too and just released footage from the historical swell in the edit below.

Bonython captioned his latest edit above:

"XXXL NAZARE - BIG AS IT GETS!! Starring two of [the] best big wave surfers on the planet.

"Lucas Chumbo and Sebastian Steudtner riding what would be some of the biggest waves ever ridden. 3 days in February 2024 that will go down as historic."

Opening the video, Bonython says:

"Here we go, literally the biggest of biggest swells at Nazare, the home of the world's biggest rideable waves."

Bonython explains there's three days of footage in the edit.

"The first day when the swell started to build I was on the water which is my happy place with a guy called Nuno Santos. We got some crazy big waves and I thought that was big.

"Well, wait till you see day two and then day three. Oh my god, it's just out of this world. Literally, some of the biggest waves surfed, world record probably things going down on this day."

Toward the end of the video, Bonythan asks Chumbo's tow partner, Alemao De Maresias:

"How big would you call some of those bombs today?"

Maresias answers:

"Over 100 feet."

Nuts.

Bonython's followers were psyched. Check out a few of their comments below:
