Nothing can stop people from getting in a good workout—not even a pandemic. One fitness trainer in Seville, Spain decided that if he couldn’t get to his own gym for a workout, he might as well take it outside and with the help of his neighbors.

In a video posted on Saturday—the day the country went into a total lockdown to protect themselves from the spread of COVID-19—a personal trainer named Gonzalo stood on the rooftop of his apartment building and coached the other residents in his apartment complex through a standard workout routine; he led them through a series of jumping jacks, squats, and lunges.

In a statement to Today, Luis Javier, a manager at his gym, said that it was Gonzalo’s idea to get the apartment complex involved in his workouts and through the use of WhatsApp.

“All the neighbors were having a hard time and sad,” he said. “But now, everyday, they are looking forward to the time for their training. It ... helps people feel much better and face the situation in Spain in a positive way.”

The video, which has gone viral, comes after the World Health Organization announced mental health guidelines in the midst of the worldwide quarantine. As of Sunday, Spain has closed all "non-essential" establishments, including restaurants, bars, and cafes, and instructed residents to stay at home for two weeks.
