57-year-old man arrested for allegedly faking fall for insurance money

Prosecutors have accused a New Jersey man of faking a fall to cash in on insurance money. In surveillance footage of the incident, the 57-year-old man appears to throw ice on the floor of a business before falling to the ground.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office alleges that Alexander Goldinsky planned the fall in the break room of a Woodbridge, N.J., company he was subcontracted to work for, ABC 7’s Eyewitness News reports. Goldinsky reportedly waited on the ground until someone found him, later filing an insurance claim for the ambulance and medical treatments he received.

Prosecutors claim it was all a scam, and Goldinsky was charged with insurance fraud and theft by deception on Jan. 15, according to the Associated Press. He’s now scheduled to appear in court next week.

After his arrest, the surveillance video of the fall quickly went viral — and people on Twitter suggested that Goldinsky should have invested in some acting classes first.

People also posted plenty of GIFs from hilarious fake falls from movies and TV shows, and even news organizations used the hashtag #NiceTry. One user quipped that he’s “going down” in a very different way now that he’s been arrested for alleged fraud.
