Video: Sharks Gobble Dolphin Near Popular San Diego Surf Spot

Over the holiday weekend, beachgoers got a show in San Diego.

Great white sharks feasted on a nine-and-a-half-foot dolphin on Sunday at Torrey Pines State Beach, just north of the popular surf spot, Blacks Beach.

And it was all caught on video:

“This is not something people wanna hear on Memorial Day, when a lot of people are going to the beach,” reported NBC. “But June does kick off the start of shark mating season here in San Diego, so you might see more sharks starting this week.

“You can see this video right here of sharks feeding on a dolphin. This was just offshore of Torrey Pines State Beach yesterday [Sunday].”

And, apparently, there were multiple sharks, and they were confirmed as great whites, according to the Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve & State Beach Facebook page.

No surfers or swimmers were in the area, and the feasting went down 30 to 40 yards offshore. State Lifeguards posted warning signs in the area after the dolphin washed ashore dead.

There’s been a handful of shark sightings and attacks in the area over the years, including at La Jolla Cove, Del Mar, Encinitas, and further north at San Onofre.

Stay vigilant.
