Video of Rescued Chickens Seeing Grass for the First Time Will Touch Anyone's Heart

In the United States, countless chickens are killed for food every day. Most of those chickens are born and live their entire lives indoors, never getting to feel the grass between their toes. But luckily for a group of young chickens, their time is not over. It’s just begun!

That’s because they’ve recently been rescued by Woodstock Farm Sanctuary, a vegan farm animal refuge in New York. When their caretaker opened the door to the crate the chickens were in, some confidently walked out. But others weren’t so keen on the idea and seemed rather nervous to exit the crate.

With a little bit of coaxing, these chickens are now out of the crate and living their best lives in freedom. To see them running around in the grass when they’ve never felt it their entire lives is something truly special.

The 12 birds are now going to live out their lives at the sanctuary, where they will receive all the care and love in the world. It is such a stark difference to the life they once had. They will also get to be loved on by all the sanctuary visitors.

Luckily, these birds will only know love and compassion for the rest of their days. They have an endless amount of grass to explore, too! Once the chickens are out of their shells a little bit more, they will grow to love the amazing sanctuary space that they get to call home.

Just seeing these chickens getting to explore the outside world for the first time is a heartwarming sight. Knowing that they were intended to be food before they were rescued is a chilling reality, but thankfully, they will never know what that is like.

Now at the sanctuary, they will get to spend their days doing chicken stuff: pecking around for bugs, taking dirt baths, and snuggling up in a coop for sleep. Happy life, chickens!
