Pro downhiller Dan Atherton has created a downhill mountain bike course in Wales that’s scaring the heck out of riders worldwide, thanks to intense high-speed gap jumps and crazy drop-offs. The former national champion in Great Britain has helped Red Bull develop one of the most challenging runs that the downhill mountain biking community has ever seen, right in his hometown.

Set in the Dyfi valley, Red Bull says that the jumps and twists on the course make it the "gnarliest" they’ve ever seen.

Watch how the course was built here:

Atherton says his trail is all about “calculated risk.” Even he wasn’t able to triumph on his own course: He’s not going to be able to compete on the Hardline, because in practice, he fractured his scapula on the run.

According to a press release from the event, Atherton said, “My whole life in mountain biking has been about pushing my limits. Hardline has been a way to express this progression, both in the building and the riding. Unfortunately, progression doesn’t come without consequences. I crashed out on one of the big hip jumps and fractured my scapula into three pieces."

We’re wishing him a speedy recovery (and hoping his crash hasn’t scared other riders away).

The competition will start tomorrow, and conclude Sunday. You can follow it on Red Bull TV.
