Back in April, a shocking, viral video came out of Bali.

It showed an American surfer, Sara Taylor, getting dropped in on by a then-unidentified surfer. Next, an alleged friend of the shoulder-hopper paddled up to Sara in the lineup, and punched her in the head. The altercation continued on the beach with the attackers assaulting Sara and her filmer. “Go away!” the two American women pleaded.

The attacker was soon identified: João Paulo “JP” Azevedo; and the surf world responded, calling out the injustice, and gunning for retribution against Azevedo, including Kelly Slater, who wrote: “Get this guy sent home where he belongs.”

Now, a video has been posted to what appears to be Azevedo’s YouTube Channel, showing the Brazilian surfer catching waves with Slater (and getting snaked by him) in Bali, back in August. In the video caption, Azevedo even gushed over the experience:

“Surfing with the goat Kelly Slater in Bali Indonesia is a dream Session. Paradise of perfect waves with Kelly Slater is a dream come true, because since I was a child I watched movies and Slater always inspired me and my friends and everyone in the world of surfing, always winning the world WSL competitions and raising everyone's level, both athletes and competitors in general.”

After the attack, Azevedo was dropped by sponsors, but allegedly, according to reports, he faced no legal retribution, nor deportation back to Brazil:

“Now, Ms Taylor's friends claim Azevedo was let off scot-free and want justice.

“'He wasn't deported. Not even arrested,' Ms [Charlie] McHarg [Sara Taylor’s filmer] said.

“'Bali police said the video wasn't enough evidence to charge him. A true sh*tshow.'”
