VIDEO: The Heaviest Wave You've Ever Seen in New Jersey

Over the last 24 hours, clips and photos and dispatches have been coming out of New Jersey, slacking jaws the surf world over with the biggest swell in years.

A bomb went off in the Garden State; a bomb cyclone.

Sifting through the wreckage, one clip has stood out from the rest – one clip showing a wave so violent, so formidable, so intense that we’ve been watching it on repeat.

Sorry, but we’re not going to tell you the details of where this clip is from. Just New Jersey; that’s all you need to know.

And it’s not your average surf clip. It’s some dude sitting in his house, peering through the blinds of his bedroom window, iPhone in hand, and capturing a freakishly monstrous wave detonating on the undisclosed New Jersey beach.

It’s shocking.

After we posted the clip to our Instagram, lots of folks thought the same:

“That’s psycho” – the king of slabs, Nathan Florence

“That was 🥩 🔥” (whatever that means) – Noa Deane

“[Fire emoji]” – Timmy Reyes

For more on the bomb cyclone swell, check out our full gallery from Jersey native photog, Pat Nolan; and here’s what Mr. Nolan had to say about the swell:

“New Jersey: The Garden State of America. Home of the $2 pizza slice and the middle finger. Where Wall Street retreats when the days of the city grow old and the tri-state area flees for summer days at the shore. I called New Jersey home for the first 22 years of my life and even since moving out of state, I still can’t help but forever call this place "home." A special place that seems to attract nor’easter storms like magnets and generate dark, cold, thick tubes. A place inhabited by some of the funniest, hardworking humans that make up a one of a kind surf community. A place that pumped yesterday (December 18, 2023) thanks to a bomb cyclone swell and hopefully set the tone for the rest of the 23/24 winter season.”

Stay tuned for more of this swell, which will undoubtedly continue to trickle in over the coming days. In the meantime, watch that clip again. Mesmerizing.
