Vermont's Snowiest Ski Resort Is Nearly 100% Open

Jay Peak in Vermont is nearly 100% open. Yup, it's mid-January, but especially for our East Coast crowd (and, let's face it, this winter... everywhere) that is something to celebrate.

Jay Peak Resort posted an exciting announcement to Facebook yesterday along with some bomb pics of the pow. The caption? "Quality Control with our GM."

A more in-depth report followed, reading "cold is here to stay, the snow is great, and winter is in full swing here at Jay Peak with 9/9 lifts running and nearly 100% of our terrain open."

"Tim Kelley's Report is hot off the presses and he's calling for 10" of powder in time for first chair tomorrow morning and more to come throughout the week with a little help form the Jay Cloud."

Jay Peak has a season total of 171 inches to date, with 6 new inches in the last 48 hours.

Tim's full report read: "Today, January 16th it continues to snow, close to 4" through lunch time. It's the 13th day in a row with accumulating snow at Jay Peak resort."

"There's a coastal storm going east of New York City, where the first inch of snow in 701 days was reported by exuberant snow lovers in The Big Apple."

"We could not imagine waiting a week for that much snow. No need either."

"Snow from that coastal storm extends all the way up here and into Canada."

"As the storm moves out into eastern Canada, we kick the Jay Cloud back into gear."

"It's very cold aloft and we have a freezing wind coming our way from the Great Lakes, along with a fairly low barometer. All those factors cause it to snow here, when it's not snowing in many other places."

"It's not snowing all the time Wednesday through Friday, but it is enough for refills each morning, maybe about 10" for first chair Wednesday morning, then two to a few inches Thursday and Friday."

Tim also calls for extremely cold temps, and even arctic winds, Friday night and Saturday. Likely the most harsh we've seen this winter.

But, in his words, "that's snow preservation!"

What more can you ask for? And the real question, why aren't we all at Jay Peak right now?
