Vermont's Snowiest Ski Resort Celebrated For Refunding Passes During Power Outage

Jay Peak experienced a power disruption during the day on Saturday, January 20th, affecting one of their phases to their electrical system.

Officials at the resort explained in a lift update that "lifts require all three phases of power to operate and, as such, have been down for a portion of the morning and here this afternoon."

Though Vermont Electric came on site triaging the issues that same day, the resort did not run lifts across Stateside Saturday.

Additionally, the lift report announced that weather made things even trickier, as "on Tramside, the Metro Quad and Moving Carpet are both operating as well as the Village Chair, but the Tram and Flyer continue to be impacted by consistently difficult winds."

However, Jay Peak was quick to remedy the situation, issuing new tickets to those who purchased passes for the day and could not ski because of the issues at hand.

In an announcement to Facebook on January 20th, officials at Jay Peak wrote, "We will allow folks to turn in tickets purchased today for a ticket to come back. Just stop by any customer service desk today or tomorrow and we’ll take care of you with a ticket to return good for a year."

The damage control didn't stop there.

Day-passers were not the only ones helped out in the unfortunate turn of events.

The resort also helped out Indy Passholders, writing, "Attention Indy Passholders who visited Jay Peak Saturday (01/20/24)"

"Given the issue we had with upper mountain lifts on Saturday, our Customer Service Manager immediately reached out to the Indy team to make sure your Jay Peak visit was added back to your pass. This has already been processed and will be available to you the next time you visit. We hope to see you again soon."

The top posts from guests of Jay Peak were positive. One skier wrote, "I checked my account, only one redemption used up this weekend, thanks. We understand the power issue was beyond your control and look forward to getting back again later this season. BTW, the skiing Sat morning and Sunday was great."

Another wrote, "This is another reason why you guys literally are the best in the east! IMO. Constant transparency and accountability and amazing customer relations. Wish I lived closer."

Even guests who weren't at Jay Peak this weekend penned their enthusiasm for the resort, saying, "I got an Indy pass for this season, planning to visit Jay for the first time. A knee injury has me deferring my pass until next season. Total bummer, but this makes me really happy with both Jay and Indy, knowing there are still companies that value their customers."

With 198 inches of snow so far this season, and 27 inches of fresh pow in the last week, there's a lot at Jay Peak that's keeping skiers happy.

Here's to you, Jay Peak.
