Vermont's Snowiest Resort Eyeing Trail Openings As Winter Makes A Comeback

Well, folks, it might actually be happening: 2024 looks primed to deliver snowfall across North America.

Among the potential beneficiaries is Jay Peak Resort, Vermont, which announced today that they have their eyes on opening more terrain amidst the arrival of new snow.

Jay Peak shared that they recently picked up three to four inches of the white stuff today, but that dusting pales compared to what could be in store in the coming days.

Chris Tomer—a meteorologist popular amongst skiers—is having a moment due to his dedicated coverage of the exciting ongoings. In his morning weather report, Tomer shared that Jay Peak could see as much as 14 inches of snow between January 4th (today) and January 13th as multiple storm cycles pass through the Northeast. Other resorts in the region, like Stowe, Killington, and Sugarbush, stand to benefit, too.

The potential for a rapid snowy recovery in the Northeast is surprising, given the region recently recovered from a period of intense rain that led to temporary closures at several resorts. I don't see anyone complaining about the turning tides, though.

In its daily snow report, Jay Peak reported that "Jay Cloud" conditions were in full effect, with snowfall and low visibility. The report states that ski patrol has opened a few new trails, presumably including Upper Milk Run and Taxi Trail, as also noted in Jay Peak's Instagram update.

While the resort only has 13 of its 81 trails open, I'd bet—if I were a betting man—that they should be able to open more terrain in the near future. Keep those expectations tempered and your eyes trained on wherever you get your forecasts—this might be the Christmas gift we all asked for.
