Vermont's Jay Peak Reporting More Than 3 Feet Of New Snow

Vermont resorts are flexing on just about everyone (besides Utah) right now, because skiers across the state are lost in the sauce.

In a post to Instagram from Jay Peak a day ago, officials at Jay Peak reported that "the Jay Cloud is just showing off, racking up 38” this week since last Sunday."

What's better than a storm day that delivers the goods?

A bluebird day with the goods already delivered.

Officials at Jay inform us that the lines are ready for the making, as "sunshine is poking out today and more snow is on the way overnight and during the day tomorrow. It’s shaping up to be a great weekend with 100% open terrain tomorrow, 9/9 lifts and plenty of powder."

Everything open means people will be spread out and there is the potential for pow turns all day long.

The season total for snowfall at Jay Peak is... wait for it... 197 inches. That's about two thirds of their annual average of 287", which is crazy, considering it's only January.

Unfortunately, it seems a power outage prevented skiers from getting a head start on the amazing conditions, as Saturday's conditions report explained that, "today we experienced a late-morning power disruption caused by one of the phases our 3-phase electrical system over at Stateside Base Area."

"Lifts require all three phases of power to operate and, as such, have been down for a portion of the morning and here this afternoon. Vermont Electric is on site triaging the issues and although we may have the problem isolated this afternoon, we will not run The Jet, Bonnie, or Taxi today."

"On Tramside, the Metro Quad and Moving Carpet are both operating along with the Village Chair and Stateside Carpet, but the Tram and Flyer continue to be impacted by consistently difficult winds."

Luckily, the resort acknowledged the issue and worked through it, satisfying guests with refunds or tickets good for a year.

"We will allow folks to turn in tickets purchased today for a ticket to come back. Just stop by any customer service desk today or tomorrow and we’ll take care of you with a ticket to return, good for a year."

"On a snowier note, it truly hasn’t stopped snowing for about a week straight here at Jay, bringing us 26” of powder to play in since Wednesday alone."

"Scattered snow showers will continue to refill our lines and add to our snow totals today and into tonight."

"Temps this morning are below freezing, so add a layer, but this weekend you'll have access to far and away the best conditions of the season."

Fingers crossed everyone gets out there Sunday. It's going to be one for the books.
