Vermont Ski Resorts Document First Snowfall Of The Winter Season

This morning, October 23rd, Stowe Mountain Resort, Vermont, announced that it had received its first snowfall of the winter season.

Here's a look featuring a photo taken by Scott Braaten.

Sadly, the fresh dusting of snow appears to be a one-off, a tease instead of a contribution to Stowe's eventual base. The lower elevation webcams at Stowe are currently snowless, meaning, presumably, that much of the snow has melted since this morning -- some of the white stuff might be sticking around on Stowe's peaks. Similarly, temperatures are expected to hang above freezing this week at the Vermont resort.

Still, the brief arrival of winter at Stowe is entirely welcome. Many of the resorts throughout the Western United States have already seen snowfall, so I imagine Vermont skiers were itching for those first flakes out East.

Stowe wasn't the only major Vermont ski area to enjoy the first proper taste of winter.

Sugarbush Resort, Vermont, announced earlier today they, too, had received snow, writing in an Instagram post, "Add it to the snow report - we picked up our first inch of snow of the 23/24 ski season this morning!"

Jay Peak, another Vermont heavy-hitter, was in the mix, too. Dust those skis off people; it's finally starting to happen.
