Vermont Resort Reopening Weeks After Historic Flood

After weathering a historic East Coast flood, Okemo Mountain Resort is open again!

In an X post (previously Twitter), Okemo announced yesterday that it would reopen for summer operations, which includes biking, sightseeing, and hiking, today, July 27th.

The announcement comes after a prolonged closure caused by historic flooding. Earlier this month, several municipalities were inundated with flood water throughout Vermont.

Ludlow, Vermont, which sits near the base of Okemo, received nearly 7 inches of rain during the flood period, leading state officials to consider the town and its neighbors among the "hardest hit" by the natural disaster.

After the flood, Okemo initially hoped to reopen on July 19th but pushed back the reopening to July 27th, providing repair crews additional breathing room.

Despite the setback, an Instagram user who commented on Okemo's official reopening post stated that, "Guests should be pleasantly surprised by the lack of visible of damage. Many man hours were put in to rebuilding bike trails, moving dirt and rocks out of the way, repairing damage at the bases."

This is great news! It's good to hear that Okemo and the town of Ludlow are getting back on their feet after the freak storm.

While much of Okemo is now open, the Mountain Road above Sugar House remains closed, and Moose Trek is the only hiking trail currently providing summit access.
