Venus Williams is a titan in women's tennis. Since she turned professional in 1994, she's won seven Grand Slam titles, including two at the U.S. Open. Tonight, the 43-year-old will play in her 24th U.S. Open, having received a wild card into the tournament.
"I just love being here, love playing here, the excitement of getting here, and the lead-up is all just — it never gets old. It’s so sweet," Venus shared last year. In celebration of her appearance tonight, take a look back at Venus Williams's history at the U.S. Open:
2022
Last year, Venus also received a wildcard into the U.S. Open; she lost in the first round of the singles tournament. In doubles, she played with her sister Serena, in their final doubles match together due to Serena's retirement.
2020
In 2020, Venus, who was unseeded, lost in straight sets in the first round.
2019
In 2019, Venus made it to the second round of the Open, before losing to Elina Svitolina.
2018
Venus made it to the third round of the U.S. Open in 2018, where she lost to her sister, Serena. It was their 30th time playing each other on tour.
2017
Venus reached the semifinals at the U.S. Open, before losing to eventual champion Sloane Stephens.
2016
Venus, seeded six, reached the fourth round in 2016.
2015
She made it to the quarterfinals in 2015, where she lost to Serena.
2014
Venus made it to the third round in 2014.
2013
She exited in the second round in 2013, after a few years of poor performances after the Open.
2012
Venus made it to the second round at the Open.
2011
Venus had to withdraw before the second round after a diagnosis of Sjörgen syndrome, an autoimmune disease.
2010
Venus, the no. 3 seed, made it to the semifinals, where she lost to eventual champion Kim Clijsters in three sets.
2009
She made it to the fourth round of the tournament in 2009.
2008

2002
Venus was a runner-up at the 2002 U.S. Open, losing in the finals to her sister Serena 6-4, 6-3.
2001
Her second title came in 2001, when she defeated Serena 6-2, 6-4 in the finals. She did not lose a set during the tournament, and it was the first of nine major finals they'd play against each other.
2000
Venus clinched her first U.S. Open title in 2000, defeating Lindsay Davenport 6-4, 7-6. She became the second woman to win Wimbledon, the Olympics, and the U.S. Open in the same season.
1999
Venus made it to the semifinals of the singles tournament in 1999, but in doubles, she and Serena won their first U.S. Open doubles tournament together.
The semifinal loss in 1999, Venus said, "fueled me to change my life and change my approach to the game of tennis."
1998
Venus was a semifinalist in 1998, losing to eventual winner Lindsay Davenport.
1997
In her first U.S. Open appearance, she reached the finals, becoming the first unseeded player to do so.
