The old saying goes you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone, but I'm here to raise the issue that there's something uniquely frustrating about losing something that you loved and appreciated. It drives me bonkers-bananas. Needless to say, the realization made it all the more clear to me that I loved this accessory—and I drove myself nearly batty over losing it. The item in question: the Jennifer Behr Wide Velvet Bow Barrette (in the shade Moss green, if you care to know.)

This seemingly simple accessory only came into my possession about 2 months ago, but in its time with me it was more than frequently worn. Often times it was the very thing that took my look from a little snoozy and drab to feeling polished. It was well-constructed and not in the slightest bit flimsy. The bow, whether my hair was half up or in a ponytail, took up sizable real estate on my head in a way that made my hairstyle seem like there was much more effort put into it than there was in actuality (none). All of which to say, it is not a subtle accessory; it's meant to be seen—a conversation piece. It's also worth noting that I own a smaller Jennifer Behr bow barrette, which is dainty and lovely. That piece, by comparison, is much more discreet and a fun finishing touch to an outfit. The Wide Velvet Bow Barrette is as much a statement in a look as the rest of your outfit.

Worn with dresses that are maybe not exactly day-to-night caliber it takes the outfit to a necessary level of polish. When paired with a blazer and a classic pair of jeans, you're instantly giving Kate Middleton (the Princess of Wales has worn Jennifer Behr's hair accessories before). For an accessory so simple, it is shocking how much of an impact it can make on one's ensemble. For me, whenever I wore it I felt like a modern Catherine Deneuve. It just feels special and elevated; not everything I put on does that.

Another major point: the Behr bow doesn't lose its shape or become warped. It has structure to it. Better still, the velvet also keeps its appearance—no matting or crushing seen after wear. And if you need any more convincing... I loved this piece so much that I bought another one without thinking twice. I don't know about you, but a hair bow might be the next best thing to a tiara.
