Eating Well / Cariuma

I have always been the type to chuck on a pair of sneakers before boots, heels or even sandals. It’s because I love the way cute sneakers look with my go-to outfits, but also because I truly prioritize comfort. And I have tried far too many options on the market and have far too little patience for sneakers that aren’t perfect for walking in morning, afternoon and night.

For years, I have heard people rave (both in person and online) about Cariuma’s sneakers for just those reasons. They’re comfortable, cute, not too expensive and sustainably made—which all sounds a little too good to be true. So, I set out to try them. I’ve been walking around in my own pair for a few weeks, and I have to admit that they really are as comfortable as people say. If you’re like me and are constantly searching for a comfortable, cute shoe to add to your collection, Cariuma should be your next pick. And now’s a great time to grab them, since we have an exclusive 25% off code, EATINGWELL25, that will help you save on your order from now until Friday May 10. Now, the only question is, which pair to grab?

OCA Low Suede Sneaker

I have been wearing the OCA Low shoe from the brand for almost two months now, after they sent a sample for me to test. I tend to prefer shoes with this shape and style, since they’re easy to slip on, but still have laces for an extra secure feel. While I chose the all black suede style, the shoe comes in an array of colors and fabrics, including canvas, leather, suede, and recycled. I love how many colors and materials the shoes come in, from soft pinks to bright greens, because there’s an option for everyone (and if you really love them, you can score multiple styles).

So far, I have worn them for a wide variety of adventures, from touring Boston this winter, to going to dinner in New York City last weekend. They’re incredibly easy to slip on, and for me, the star of the show is the footbed of the shoe. It’s much more plush, soft, and comfortable than other similar shoes I’ve tried, which can hurt my feet more after hours of wear.

The comfy insoles are made from cork and momoa oil-derived foam for a naturally-derived touch. I personally haven’t tried sneakers (that aren’t running shoes) that have the extra care taken to include a plush footbed. The outer suede is soft and smooth, and the extra-special laces that come with the all-black color are incredibly durable. There’s also a slip-resistant sole (which truly does work, remember: Boston in winter) and the continuation of the rubber sole up to the toe of the shoe, which helps with durability.

One thing that surprised me about these shoes is that they barely needed any breaking in. They’re definitely stiff and flat, since they’re designed like skate shoes, so the shoe will need softening overtime in that regard. But I really didn’t get any blisters wearing them in the beginning. The shoe’s ankle opening is nice and wide, so I do feel like that helped contribute to the shoes feeling light and non-constricting on my ankles. Plus, the back of the ankle area has a touch of extra padding, so they never felt uncomfortable.

I have fairly narrow feet, and I found these shoes a little roomy for me. I’d imagine that these would work well for folks with normal or even wider feet too, though you’d need to try them on to be sure. Their less constrictive ankles and breathable design is going to be especially key over the summer too, where I’m often overheating and uncomfortably sweaty, but still committed to wearing the comfortable sneakers I love.

But there’s one more thing I love: The brand is committed to making sustainable decisions. With every shoe you buy, a tree gets planted to help with reforestation.

With the perfect everyday design and a wide variety of materials and colors, the hardest part from here is deciding which style to buy. Shop this shoe of the summer now while you can save with the code EATINGWELL25, or shop even more styles below with the discount.
