Spanx Ahhh-llelujah Everyday Shorts

Those of us who only wanted a little smoothing around the thighs and midsection fell in love with these Ahhh-llelujah shorts. They’re neither tight nor constricting, but they do erase any bumps and dimples on the legs, making them perfect for form-fitting dresses and everyday wear. Not to mention, they also prevented chafing — a huge win. Their seamless nature makes them invisible under tight clothing, none the wiser that our thighs and midsection were being molded with gentle support.

Hanes Curves Sheer Black Tights

We originally tested these tights for our best black tights story, in which we deemed the control-top properties too shaping if you simply wanted black tights. But that’s precisely what makes them a great shapewear option. Not only did the firm top tuck in our bellies and smooth out uneven surfaces, but they put up quite a fight against sharp objects as well. No matter what we did, the leggings simply would not rip. While they’re rip-resistant and supportive around the belly, they’re also comfortably stretchy around the legs. Our tester beamed that “these tights deliver crazy value — they will pass the test of time for people who want a control top!”

Spanx Suit Your Fancy Strapless Cupped Mid-Thigh Bodysuit

For some serious shaping, we recommend the Spanx Suit Your Fancy Strapless Bodysuit. This piece sucked us in where it counts, creating one seamless silhouette from top to bottom. While it took a little wiggling to get it into position, we didn’t have to constantly readjust throughout the day. Thanks to the little opening at the bottom, you don’t even have to take it off during bathroom visits. Unfortunately, the bust size is one-to-one with the rest of the suit, and testers with larger busts experienced lack of support while wearing this. Those of us with smaller breasts, however, found the cups to be a delight, getting all the coverage without the need for straps (although removable ones were included).

J.Crew Control-Top Opaque Tights

Voted our “best control-top” leggings, these bad boys were unseemingly shaping. On the outside, they look like any other opaque leggings, but once on, they did an excellent job concealing our lower bellies. On top of providing great support, they’re extremely stretchy — we were able to pull them two arms-length apart, and they neither lost their shape nor opacity. This kept them quite comfortable and non-constricting during wear, which is pretty rare for shapewear. Particularly with winter coming up, these work double duty as warm and stylish leggings that hold your belly together.
