Like many people, I’m not a big fan of shopping for swimsuits. The stores I once relied on for cute, flattering bikinis and one-pieces have made major changes when it comes to what they offer, which means that figuring out where to buy bathing suits in 2024 can get confusing.

However, as someone who works in fashion, I’m sometimes offered the opportunity to test out new swimwear. I’m also an avid shopper on the side, and whenever an influencer gives a swimsuit a glowing review, I feel tempted to click that link and snag it for myself. So far, I’ve stocked up at least seven different bathing suits for summer 2024 and felt compelled to share a short list of my favorites.

In my opinion, the best swimwear comes from just three different locations, and some of stores that sell the best swimsuits are unexpected. I’m rounding up my current favorites, ahead, along with picks I have or love (and wish I had!) from each place.

If you love the look of designer swimsuits but hate the high price tags, chances are you’ll be able to find similar styles on Amazon for a lot less.

Like many people, I’ve relied on the site for things like UGG alternatives and matching summer shorts sets, so discovering that it’s packed with expensive-looking bikinis and one-pieces shouldn’t have been all that surprising. But between the floral-embellished swimsuits, printed sets, and cutout creations, it really seemed too good to be true—until I ordered a well-reviewed bikini and it actually lived up to the hype. It’s perfect for those who are tempted to try new swimwear trends but aren’t willing to spend more than $50 total.

Technically, I discovered Hollister as the ultimate place to buy bathing suits last summer, but this year, I’ve already added another bikini to my collection and will likely end up purchasing even more from the brand. As a millennial, I used to associate this store with my teen years, but as of late, its clothing section is full of sleek, fashion-forward pieces—and the swimsuits are incredibly flattering.

I’m personally obsessed with the Ribbed High Crossover Waist Bikini Bottom ($15). It provides plenty of coverage in the back and, unlike other high-waisted styles, the V-waist design holds me in without looking like I’m wearing a diaper. I also love the underwire tops, since they’re both supportive and give me a bit of cleavage.

3. Lands’ End

Don’t sleep on Lands’ End. Aside from being my go-to for nautical summer knits, this brand sells some seriously statement-making one-pieces and retro-style swimsuits. I’m already counting down the days until I can regularly wear my High Neck Zip Front One Piece ($66), which features an adjustable zipper that allows you to show as little or as much cleavage as you want.

And, maybe it’s due to Apple TV+’s Palm Royale or Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” music video, but I’m tempted to lean into the ’60s fashion trend with my swimwear this season. Lands’ End must be feeling the look, too, because it’s selling a gingham Square Neck Halter ($62) with matching Tugless High-Waisted bottoms ($32), and the vintage-inspired combo is available in three different colors.
