VCS celebrates exceptional students with Student Spotlight Program

HENDERSON — The Student Spotlight program, sponsored by Vance County Schools and the Vance County Public School Foundation, aims to celebrate outstanding students who are making a meaningful difference in their schools. The program aims to recognize students who demonstrate remarkable qualities such as kindness, dedication, and a commitment to personal growth.

By shining a light on these remarkable individuals, Vance County Schools aims to inspire and encourage the entire student body to strive for excellence in all aspects of their lives. Students are recognized at their school and celebrated through social media, the local radio station, WIZS, and the local newspaper, The Daily Dispatch.

Additionally, students are afforded the opportunity, at no cost, to Experience Raleigh with their parent/guardian. This year, the Experience Raleigh trip took place on Friday, April 26. Students visited the Museum of Natural Science, the Museum of History and Freedom Park, along with a tour of the Legislative Building with Rep. Frank Sossamon.

Students were able to enjoy the day with their parent/guardian, as well as have a lovely lunch in downtown Raleigh. The generosity of the Vance County Public School Foundation made the Experience Raleigh trip possible, underscoring the foundation’s commitment to providing enriching experiences for students beyond the classroom.

On May 13, students were honored at a Red Carpet Reception, held at the Vance County Board of Education building. Students were greeted with a red carpet, leading them to a celebration honoring this esteemed recognition. The Vance County High School culinary arts students prepared and served the guests. The event was made possible through the generosity of MAKO Medical.

Following the reception, students were recognized and presented with a framed certificate from the Vance County Board of Education acknowledging their remarkable achievements and contributions to their school community. The success of the Student Spotlight program underscores Vance County Schools’ unwavering dedication to fostering a culture of excellence and recognizing the outstanding efforts of its students.
