Actress, producer, singer, host, and entrepreneur Vanessa Hudgens graduated from Disney’s High School Musical franchise to certified star with coveted roles in films like
Netflix’s tick, tick... BOOM!, director Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers, and several Netflix Christmas films. After Hudgens co-hosted the official Oscars pre-show on ABC, our beauty editor, Nicole Saunders, caught up with the star about her latest venture: relaunching her skincare line KNOW Beauty on Amazon.
The hero product of KNOW Beauty is the Glacial Bay Clay Mask, which came out of a personal need for Hudgens. “I was determined to create and launch with a clay mask that I really don’t think exists on the market. I wanted to bring something to people who have the same skincare struggles as me, and offer it where they shop at a price they can afford,” says Hudgens.

What is it? A spa-like facial in a jar that soaks up excess oil, unclogs pores, and minimizes the appearance of enlarged pores.

The new hero product from your line is the Glacial Bay Clay Mask. What was the inspiration for this product? And how has using this product impacted your skin?
I love clay masks whenever my skin is distressed, breaking out and needs purification. So that’s where we started. My formulator Mary Berry of Cosmos Labs has had so much expertise in this, I really leaned on her. We found a rare Canadian colloidal clay that is harvested from an active glacier in British Columbia — it was the perfect ingredient for our mask as it gently removes impurities, infuses skin with vitamins, and restores a glowy complexion.
The mask was designed with oily and acne-prone skin types in mind. Was acne something you dealt with as a teen or as an adult? If so, what tips do you have for readers feeling insecure about their skin?
The Glacial Bay Clay Mask really came out of a personal need as I’ve struggled with acne for much of my adult life. I keep going back to clay masks because I see an immediate difference in my skin.

Tell us about your relationship with your skin and how it has evolved over your career.

What skincare ingredient has been a game changer for your skin and why?
My favorite (and absolutely underrated) skincare ingredient is definitely lactic acid. I love how it gently sloughs away dead skin and lightens dark spots. I love what it does for my skin, so we made sure to get it in the new clay mask as well.
Why is sticking to a skincare routine important to you?
I’ve always been a fan of beauty cosmetics, but it took aging to get me to really get to it. Once it really sunk in that I needed to start caring for my skin, I invested in an eye cream and started to see a difference. Then I really got into it, and my skin feels and looks amazing. But the best part — I feel confident and beautiful in just my skin. Skin is in!
