Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler Have Reportedly Broken Up

The pair dated for almost nine years.

Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler have reportedly broken up after nearly nine years together, Us Weekly reports.

The outlet shared the news on on January 14, with an insider source claiming, "Vanessa and Austin are officially broken up, and Vanessa has been telling those close to her about their breakup." Per Us Weekly, they had not been seen in photos together recently.

Vanessa and Austin reportedly first met back in 2005, when Vanessa was working on High School Musical. Though she dated Zac Efron until 2010, she and Austin were friends during that time, and embarked on a romantic relationship sometime around 2011.

In the years since, they've supported each other personally and professionally on red carpets, in Instagram posts, and in interviews. They've cheered each other on as they've taken new projects, from Vanessa's role in Rent Live! to Austin's forthcoming turn as Elvis in Baz Luhrmann's biopic. As Us Weekly noted, Vanessa told Women's Health in 2018, "We both respect, trust and admire each other. It’s so solid now because I feel strong as an independent woman. I am very self-reliant, but it’s nice to have a best friend you can share victories with as well as losses."

While it's natural to feel some feelings about a celebrity breakup, it's important to respect people's privacy, especially during difficult life moments, and take all celeb gossip with several grains of salt. Vanessa and Austin will likely share more about the breakup rumors when and if they're ready; meanwhile, fans can still get excited about all the future projects on the way for both actors (we see you, Princess Switch sequel).
