Van Lifer Braves California Mega Storm In A Truckee Parking Lot

Where were you when the snowstorm of the season hit the Sierra Nevada this past weekend? By a fireplace? In a warmer, snowless state?

Some people prefer more extreme alternatives. As the storm rolled in, van lifer and YouTuber Foresty Forest was camped out in a Truckee, California, parking lot. His shelter? A trusty, kitted-out 4 x 4 van.

It wasn't a storm your average van lifer would recommend waiting out in a parking lot. Over the past few days, Palisades Tahoe—a ski resort 20 minutes away from Truckee—saw eight feet of snow.

But Foresty Forest has his winter weather procedures dialed. From a wood-burning stove to a cozy bed setup, there apparently isn't much that can sink his van.

In his video, he notes that some people might like hanging out on a beach. However, he prefers to chase storms, explaining that he finds hunkering down in his van addictive.

Call me crazy, but I see the appeal. It's been a mostly dry winter here in Western Montana, and I've been craving a good blizzard or two.

The only change I would make to Foresty Forest's excursion? Hitting the slopes after the roads get plowed.
