Valerie Bertinelli Shares Important Message About Dieting With Fans in Raw Post
  • Valerie Bertinelli asked fans to stop seeking dieting advice from her in an emotional new post.

  • She shared that, for her, weight loss has become very personal.

  • “Releasing weight is a nice side effect for sure, but this journey has to be, for me, much more than that this time,” she wrote.

Be it her Food Network cooking show or Instagram, Valerie Bertinelli approaches her platform with honesty—which is why she got vulnerable in a new post that pleaded with fans to stop asking her for dieting advice.

The chef and former Jenny Craig spokesperson, 63, is decades into public discourse about her own fluctuating weight, and although she continues to share her journey to a healthy relationship with her body, she wants followers to know that her story, nor her practices, are one-size-fits-all.

“This is the little girl I want to take care of right now. The perpetual people pleaser,” she captioned a gallery of black and white childhood photos on Instagram. “So please don’t come to me for diet advice.”

She continued: “I have failed more times than I have succeeded. Releasing weight is a nice side effect for sure, but this journey has to be, for me, much more than that this time.”

Bertinelli went on to explain that she is prioritizing her mental health and the processing of her past trauma, knowing that its effects will show up as a change in how she physically looks and feels.

“It is not about the number on the scale. My heart is lighter. My head is lighter. I want to feel my feelings, even though they can be scary sometimes,” she wrote. And that requires her to stop numbing her emotions with alcohol and food, she added.

“That is the road I’m on and doing my best to stay on. I want to live the rest of my life truly happy, finding the deep joy within me, and not just faking it until I make it,” she wrote.

Fans met Bertinelli’s vulnerability with appreciation and support. “Yes to joy & love & complete inner peace,” one person commented. “So happy for your heart 😍,” another added. “Beautifully said, Valerie! Weight is not the greatest indicator of health,” someone else wrote.

In a previous post, Bertinelli shared a weight loss update while walking her dog, elaborating on her renewed focus on emotional well-being and nutrition, which began in November when she “got free,” she said—a presumed allusion to her divorce from Tom Vitale.

She wrote that through therapy, journaling, and meditation, she began to develop a deeper relationship with herself. “Caring not so much about calories but what are in those calories? Am I getting enough fiber? Am I getting enough protein?” she explained. “Am I getting enough vitamins, naturally, in my food? Am I drinking too much? What makes me feel better. What makes my body feel better?”

Last year, she opened up about her weight serving as “protection” while she faced “a lot of heartbreak.” Now, she wrote on Instagram, she no longer needs that armor. “I’m really starting to love myself. Deep down,” she wrote. “All this to say I have a lot to talk about and will continue to do so. Thank you for coming on this journey with me.”
