In a candid new Instagram video, Valerie Bertinelli, 63, set the record straight for those who've been commenting about her hair and use of filters on social media.

On Tuesday, the Food Network star issued a "PSA about filters and grey roots," saying, "I'm filming with no filter today because some of y'all get really bent out of shape when I choose to use a filter, which I've told you about."

"Sometimes I use filter, and sometimes I don't," the One Day at a Time actress continued. "Most of the time, I do use filter because this is me with no makeup, and this is no filter, okay?" Valerie gestured to her face—which was glowing, BTW—before adding that someone had commented on another Instagram post that she was wearing a wig.

The Hot in Cleveland star then bent down to show her roots before jokingly asking, "Can you get me a wig without flipping gray roots then, please? Because I'm tired of getting my roots done every two weeks."

Valerie ended the video with a shoutout to the fans who support her, no matter what she looks like. "Thank goodness 99.9 percent of you are really kind, sweet people and don't give a flying flip whether I have roots or I put a filter on," she said. "But some of y'all need to chill out, ok? I mean, seriously."

Valerie's Instagram followers flooded her comment section with sweet messages. Makeup artist Jacque Mgido commented, "I think you need to just play the song It’s my prerogative. Don’t forget to tell them about the wings 🪽they have no idea you an 😇," and actress Tiffani Thiessen wrote, "Don't give that any energy friend. It ain't worth it. I literally erase and ignore that noise. Did that for my sanity a long time ago. lol! Happy New Year gorgeous ❤️❤️."

The Valerie's Home Cooking host is no stranger to sharing her unfiltered thoughts on aging and body image. After turning 63 in April, she posted an Instagram video of her spinning her suitcase around with her feet from the Amsterdam airport.

"I am so over the moon grateful on my birthday this year! 🙏🏻🤍 I have survived the hardest six years of my life and now," she captioned the post. "I’m in Amsterdam (one of my favorite places on earth with sweet special memories 🥹) And on Thursday, I get to watch my son open for Metallica! 🤘🏻🎤 🎸 Life is good. ✨"

In August 2022, Valerie also opened up about her battle with weight, dieting, and body image issues on The Kelly Clarkson Show. "I learned at a young age that gaining weight was unlovable... so I’m still trying to purge that out of my system because that’s not true. It’s just a lie,” she told host Kelly Clarkson. "...I’m just done judging myself. I’m done with all the negative talk that I give myself, because there’s enough negative talk out there."

And when it comes to aging, Valerie thinks of it as "such a trip." In November 2023, she got real about the aging process on TikTok. "Hey, anybody else out there my age, um, just find it challenging to wrap their head around aging?" she started the video. "I'm 63 and, um, factually, I have spent more time young than I have being old. So I'm kind of adjusting."

She went on to explain how she can still jog up the stairs, but can't run, she can do a nice deep squat, but she has to hold on something to get back up. "I'm having trouble wrapping my head around this aging stuff. Right?" Valerie continued. "I am still this young, goofy, let's have fun girl."

Valerie ended the video by saying she's appreciative of what she's been through to get to this point, but "it's just mind blowing, aging."
