Valerie Bertinelli has long been honest about her experiences with weight loss and self-acceptance. Now, the Food Network star is getting “vulnerable” with her fans while sharing an uplifting perspective on body image.

The 63-year-old just shared a raw video to Instagram and TikTok, discussing how far she’s come in her journey toward a healthy relationship with her body. In the video, Bertinelli stood in her closet while wearing a pink button-down shirt and jeans, revealing that she “found” the outfit she wore in her “very first ‘before’ picture for Jenny Craig.”

“Warning: Vulnerable post incoming—all hateful commenters will be blocked. 🥰,” she captioned the Instagram video. “I have been doing a lot of emotional and mental purging in the last year. And the past few weeks, purging my closets and getting rid of things that no longer bring me joy. These were in the back of my closet in my office. I don’t know why I kept them, but now I’m glad I did,” Bertinelli wrote.

“It’s nice to see how far I’ve come emotionally. I continue to work on not suppressing or numbing my feelings with food or alcohol and here I am,” the star continued. “I am enough. Our bodies do not define who we are as human beings. A number on the scale does not define how much love your heart can hold. Please love yourself, every single part of you. YOU ARE ENOUGH 🤍✌🏻”

In the emotional video, Bertinelli elaborated on the caption while taking a deep breath and walking closer toward the mirror. “I’ve done so much emotional and mental work to recover from years of pretending everything was okay when it wasn’t,” she explained. “Health is not a body size. Health is not that number you see on a scale. Your worth as a human being isn’t dictated by your body. It’s not defined by your body,” said the actress.

“I thought I was fat the last time I wore these clothes. I’ve never felt more beautiful, more at peace, more mentally and emotionally stable than I do today—and I’m wearing my ‘fat clothes.’”

Her friends and fans alike were overjoyed to witness the star’s refreshing perspective. “Thank you for this incredibly courageous and vulnerable post,” one fan commented. “You are amazing and bring so much joy to others by just being honest, comfortable, and loving you!” another added.

Even Ree Drummond of The Pioneer Woman joined the conversation, writing: “Valerie, your honesty is so beautiful and you won’t ever know the extent of the positive ripple effect these posts will have on the women, both young and not-so-young, who see them.”

Bertinelli has been on the quite the journey—and it hasn’t always been an easy one. In 2021, the star posted another candid video about body image detailing her struggles with her appearance. “I’m doing my best to distract my mind from spiraling into a place of self-loathing because I saw a picture of myself today that made me want to do that,” the actress said in the clip.

“I am not where I want to be right now body-wise. I don’t know if I ever will be. But when I see it right in front of me, it really does send me down that path,” she continued. “And I am doing my best to be positive and more full of joy and hoping my body will follow along. [I’m] not there yet.”

We think it’s safe to say that Bertinelli has come a very long way, and we couldn’t be happier for her!
