Top Gun: Maverick spoilers follow.

Val Kilmer has shared an image from his Top Gun: Maverick cameo, along with a sweet message to Tom Cruise.

The actor played Iceman alongside Cruise in the original 1986 movie, and he reprises the role briefly in the sequel as he and Maverick meet again.

Due to an unspecified illness, Iceman – aka Tom Kazansky – communicates through a computer in the scene, mirroring Kilmer's real-life experience with throat cancer.

Now, the actor has posted a shot from the moving moment on social media, captioning the post: "36 years later… I'm still your wingman <3."

Fans flooded the comments with their appreciation for the cameo, with one writing: "The most moving sequence of the film." Another commented: "Your scene with Tom was the highlight! Loved the movie #Iceman."

In the Maverick scene, Iceman persuades Pete to return to Top Gun and prepare the recruits for the mission, though he sadly passes away off-screen not long after.

Speaking of his return, Kilmer said: "I was very moved the first time I saw it. Almost 40 years is a long time for a reunion. We laughed all day. Tom is great and surprisingly funny!!"

"It's a good story arc. And it was very exciting to be back at it with Tom," he continued.

Kilmer also shared that the format of the scene changed until they decided to end it with Iceman speaking.

"It changed every day in rehearsals. They made the right choice in the end," he said, before recalling that the hug between the two characters was "straight from the heart".

"I love Tom. We've always gotten along great," he added.
