Vail Resorts Launching New AI Assistant For Colorado Ski Resorts

The buzzword of a generation has finally come for snowsports.

No, not in the form of too-chatty-talking AI skis that critique your form with every turn.

Yesterday, Vail Resorts announced that its My Epic app will feature an AI assistant called My Epic Assistant at select ski areas next season.

My Epic Assistant, which debuts at four Colorado resorts—Vail Mountain, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, and Keystone—functions like a handheld resort guide, answering various questions on snow conditions, groomed run locations, and rental assistance.

In a press release, Vail provided a list of possible questions you could pose to the Assistant:

"What runs are groomed today?"

"What are the conditions on-mountain?"

"What time is Ski and Ride School drop off?"

"What are the lunch options on mountain?"

"Where can I get rentals?"

"What is the closest parking lot to get to the mountain?"

Notably, My Epic Assistant isn't just powered by AI. It features AI functionality, but users can defer to a human resort expert if they choose. More details about the Assistant are forthcoming as the 2024-2025 ski season approaches.

The addition of My Epic Assistant follows Vail's launch of Mobile Pass and Mobile Lift Tickets this season. These allow skiers to scan through lift gates using their phones and the My Epic app at numerous Vail resorts.

Other features of the My Epic app include "lift line wait times, interactive trail maps, real-time mountain conditions, personalized stats," Vail says.

The resort conglomerate plans to expand My Epic Assistant's functionality in the future and bring it to additional ski areas.
