Are Yoga Pants to Blame for the Increase in Labiaplasties?

The folks at Fox & Friends might not be keen on women wearing leggings, but since most women don’t look to conservative so-called Christian males to dictate their wardrobes, (sorry Willie Robertson – you ain’t Kanye, boo) leggings are here to stay. Of course, wearing such tight bottoms can pose a problem for some women who feel their ladyparts are too prominently on display, but that ain’t nothin’ a little plastic surgery can’t help.

According to the New York Post, more women are getting labiaplasties to perfect the appearance of their privates, so that they too can have the ill na na – the kind impervious to camel toe. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery says that labiaplasty procedures went up 49% last year and apparently, the athleisure trend is partly to blame. Plastic surgeon Dr. Richard Swift says that a lot of his patients come to him, just wanting their ladyflowers to look good in yoga pants.

“For those whose labia are enlarged, they can make them feel uncomfortable and exposed,” he said.“One of my patients was particularly self-conscious doing Pilates in a leotard — so much so that she was afraid to do certain moves.” The struggle is real, folks. ASAPS’ Dr. Michael Edwards notes that women undergo the procedure to fix problems that are “interfering with their ability to perform sexually, to perform daily tasks such as exercise, or are merely causing discomfort.”

There are already devices that women can use to combat camel toe, like the Cuchini camel toe guard, but for some women the accessory tantamount to a push-up bra simply isn’t enough. Veronica, a model who underwent the procedure says the size of her ladyparts was sometimes uncomfortable: “I often used to get caught up inside myself and it hurt,” she said. Ouch.

A simple solution to this camel toe problem might be, I don’t know, opting to wear actual pants instead of leggings all the time. But hey, grown women are allowed to make their own decisions about their bodies, so whatever floats your boat, guys.
