How We Vacation - A lazy day kayaking on the Caddo River

When Angela Vinet goes on vacation, she goes with her husband and three boys. One of their favorite places to go is to Caddo Gap, Arkansas for a lazy day spent kayaking on the Caddo River.

From Shreveport, it's less than three hours till they are met with easy rapids that are perfect for those who are beginning to learn. They opted to stay in a VRBO close by on the Little Missouri.

“Since it’s an easy trip, we let the kids bring some friends. A one-adult to three-kid ratio worked well if the kids are proficient kayakers. If learning, it’s best to have adults chaperone their own children,” said Angela.

For lunch they made rolled wraps that were prepared ahead of time and stored in Ziploc bags, “Everything just tastes better on the river.”

Angela says that kayaking the river is really easy but the key is knowing what to pack, “It’s not intimidating if you are prepared. You’ll need a dry bag or two to put food, sunscreen, medical kit and maybe throw in some toilet paper in a zip-lock. Definitely buy the phone pouch - it works!”

Out of the kayaks, there are footballs thrown, ice pops eaten and snorkeling in the clear water, “They can’t believe how well they can see in the river!” said Angela.
