Utah Town Aims To Reclaim 'World's Longest Shot Ski' Record

Utah, a state known for its strict liquor laws and an adverse disposition to consuming it, is home to a mountain town that doesn't particularly care what the folks in Salt Lake City think about their enjoyment of liquid libations.

Park City, UT, the aforementioned town, is embroiled in a heated rivalry with Breckenridge, Colorado for the title of 'world's longest shot ski', and is aiming to reclaim the record October 21, 2023.

The video below shows participants at last year's event throwing back their shots on Park City's Main Street:

According to the Park City Chamber of Commerce, the communal shot ski used in 2022 was made from 528 fastened end to end skis totaling 2,840 feet in length. It served 1,340 people.

Breckenridge broke the record later that December with 1,350 participants and 468 skis at 2,401 feet in length. To up the ante, this year's event at Park City will invite 1,360 participants to drink from the communal shot ski.

Will Breckenridge respond? Most likely. The annual Ullr Fest is slated to take place in Breckenridge on December 7-9. There's a 'World's Longest Shot Ski' event scheduled for Thursday, December 7th.

How will this battle end? Will both towns keep increasing their shot skis to the point that they're too long? Maybe they'll keep expanding until they meet somewhere in the middle.

It's only 410 miles between the two towns. Assuming the average ski is 170cm long, it would take roughly 390,000 skis stacked end to end to bridge the distance between the two towns. That's not impossible, right?

Cheers to all the folks heading out to Park City this weekend for the festivities. Enjoy the drink, share some laughs, and pray for snow.

A man playing a guitar at The Corner Store once told me: "Welcome to Park City. The only place in Utah where you can drink like you're not in Utah!"
