Utah Ski Resorts Closes Essential Chairlift Indefinitely

Nordic Valley Ski Resort, Utah, has temporarily closed its Apollo Lift. This chair provides essential access to the mountain's lower and upper terrain networks, depositing skiers near the base of the higher elevation Nordic Express.

Nordic Valley shuttered the lift because, during a routine gearbox replacement this fall, the resort's operations team discovered that it required "extensive repairs."

To alleviate these issues, Nordic Valley is undergoing "a comprehensive restoration project, temporarily closing the Apollo Chairlift for an undetermined period of time."

In lieu of the chair, Nordic Valley plans to use two new Alpina Sleds with an uphill capacity of 200 skiers per hour, a measure the resort calls a "reliable and efficient alternative during the temporary closure of Apollo."

However, Apollo and Nordic Express' terrain has yet to open due to a lack of snow. The sled system will be implemented "as soon as we receive enough snow coverage," says Nordic Valley.

Nordic Valley issued a reminder that these lift and terrain closures are unrelated to Apollo's maintenance issues.

The Apollo and Nordic Express chairlifts access most of Nordic Valley's runs.

Currently, the resort has the Crockett and Cub lifts open, which serve a small network of beginner terrain near the base area. Nordic Valley hasn't shared when they plan to open Apollo and the Nordic Express' terrain networks—it seems Mother Nature has the final say.
