Utah Ski Resort Opening One Hour Early Over Holiday Weekend

Deer Valley Resort in Utah is making a lot of skiers happy this weekend. Officials of the resort announced that "on February 17-19, 2024, we will be extending chairlift operations to give you more time on the mountain!"

"All chairlifts scheduled for the day will open an hour earlier, at 8 a.m."

The conditions are shaping up for a great weekend of skiing at Deer Valley, with a mid-mountain base of 74 inches, snow in the forecast for Thursday, and a season total of 225 inches so far (not counting whatever comes down later this week).

Have you ever wanted to get into backcountry skiing because of the extended hours (as long as the sun is up, the adventure is at your disposal) but you just can't quite get around how nice it is to get a lift up the hill?

Have you ever mourned the fact that the sun rises before 7, and yet you can't ski for 2 whole hours after that at most resorts in America?

Have you ever wished there were more hours in the ski day so people could filter on and off the mountain, making trails less crowded?

Deer Valley may have just come through with the perfect solution to grant all of these wishes. The only bummer is that as of right now, "Deer Valley Single-day Lift Tickets and Ikon Reservations are currently sold out for February 17-19, 2024."

Still, maybe this will inspire other resorts to do the same. Clearly, it was a popular move.

At this time, officials at Deer Valley Resort announced, in a response to a comment below their original post, that they do not plan to open the lifts earlier the following weekend.
