Utah Ski Resort Asks Community For Help To Prep For Opening Day

Brighton Resort in Utah, located at the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon right above Solitude, has asked visitors to halt uphill travel as they prepare for the ever-closer winter season.

Though it's tempting to boot-pack or skin up the mountain to get a little taste of snow under your belt (or, this case, skis) the mountain has kindly asked people leave the snow moving to the cats and snowmaking teams.

In a post to Instagram yesterday with footage of a cat plowing snow into shape, Brighton reported that "the groomers are going! We are working to get some of our runs in shape for when we are able to open and we will have a better idea of our opening day soon as our guns keep kicking out snow."

On Twitter, Brighton shared a similar message, reporting that the snow guns are working overtime and their efforts should be respected.

The Instagram post admitted that "a big part of us figuring out when our opening day is depends on your help."

We all want winter here like, yesterday, but mort importantly, we want to ski. Apparently, that means holding off until things are properly set up.

When Brighton's season is in full swing, there is the potential to find quality chutes and pristine conditions all over the mountain.

Historically, Brighton was the first ski resort in Utah. In 1936, the Alpine Ski Club built a tow rope using a wire and old elevator motor. Even with the slow start to the season, when the snow does fill in, we'll be enjoying 8 modern chairlifts and not tow ropes. Let's look on the bright side!

Brighton thanks everyone for their patience and reminds everyone that "we can open up sooner if our uphill travel policy is respected and our staff is able to continue to prepare the mountain."

"We hope to share an opening day with you soon." We'll be eagerly awaiting updates until then, and when the mountain does open, Brighton won't have to worry about us going up anymore, because we're pretty stoked to go down the hill.
