Utah Ski Areas Leading The Country In Total Snowfall

Meteorologist Matthew Johnson just gave Utah yet another acknowledgement in the skiing world: currently, Utah holds 4 of the top 7 spots in America for the snowiest resorts this season.

With Alta, Snowbird, Brighton, and Solitude, Utah makes up the majority of the snowiest resorts in the U.S. See below.

Beating out the Utah resorts is Alaska's Alyeska, and coming in right behind them is Timberline in Oregon and Sugar Bowl in California.

Alta has 548 inches of snowfall, Snowbird comes in right behind at 491 inches, Brighton has 486, and Solitude has 474 inches.

Due to its inland, continential climate, not only does Utah see a lot of snow during the winter months, but the skiing in Utah is renowned for its "champagne" powder. The lake effect (Salt Lake) creates a unique, light, fluffy snow.

So, while Utah resorts may not hold the number one spot, they certainly have a winning snow quality. Combined with Utah hosting multiple of the snowiest resorts in the nation, it looks like a trip to Utah is in order.
