Utah Resort To Release Rehabilitated Great Horned Owls This Upcoming Weekend

Yesterday, September 7th, Sundance Mountain Resort, Utah, announced on Instagram that they will host another bird release this weekend on Sunday, September 10th, at 1 PM.

The release, which will take place at the Bearclaw Cabin, is in partnership with Great Basin Wildlife Rescue. Spectators are encouraged, so if you're into birds, Sundance is the place to be this weekend.

From the caption:

"The program will kick off with an engaging educational experience where we’ll learn about the Harris's Hawk, the elegant Barred Owl and the formidable Great Horned Owl. Following the presentation, we will have the privilege of witnessing the release of three adolescent Great Horned Owls into their natural environment. Hope to see you there!"

The release will include an "educational experience" focusing on the Harris's Hawk, the Barred Owl, and the Great Horned Owl, wrapping up with the eventual release of three adolescent Great Horned Owls.

Sounds like a hoot! Sorry. Had to do it.

To spectate the release, you'll need to travel up the Outlaw Express, Stairway Lift, and Red’s chairlifts. After unloading Red's, you'll walk 100 yards to the Bear Claw Cabin. While spectating is free, you either need to purchase a sightseeing ticket to access the lifts or be a season pass holder. Sundance recommends catching the lifts at noon to reach Bearclaw Cabin in time.

Great Basin Wildlife Rescue is a central Utah-based non-profit that rescues and rehabilitates injured or orphaned wild animals before releasing them back into the wild. The organization focuses primarily on birds of prey -- like the aforementioned Great Horned Owls -- and black bear cubs.

Sundance has hosted several bird releases over the years -- some private, some public. With their ongoing partnership with Great Basin Wildlife Rescue, they aim to "instill a deepened appreciation of nature to all who visit the resort," says a Sundance representative.
